Your Support is Needed
Hello Readers,
We’re taking a pause from reporting on our conference to let you know we have a record number of applicants again this year… 25 in all. Last year we had a record number at 19, and this year we outdid that number. It is gratifying to know that we are reaching the students who can use our scholarships to help them along their collegiate journey.
Now our challenge is to find enough funding to give large enough scholarships to make a difference in these students’ lives. They have already overcome so much to get to where they are. Going from an eighth-grade education to college has many challenges along the way. We don’t want the lack of funds to impede them now. Will you please go to our Donate page and give what you can to help these students succeed in earning a college education?
You donation will be matched until July 17! Our generous donor who has been matching funds is offering to extend the deadline, so your donation will mean even more to our students. If you have been meaning to donate to the Amish Descendant Scholarship Fund, now is the time your support is needed the most.
One of the common themes we heard at the conference two weeks ago is how formerly Amish students are reluctant to take on debt. This is a lesson we learned from growing up in an Amish community, is not to go into debt we may not be able to handle. Our students would rather juggle the responsibilities of holding a job while attending college than struggle with debt in their future. If we can help alleviate the stress that comes with carrying too many responsibilities, we will. That is why we are asking for your help.
If you want to know how The Amish Descendant Scholarship Fund has helped students succeed, please see Leon Hostetler’s story about becoming a physicist and Sharon Beachy’s story of finding her way to a pre-med track in undergrad with the goal of becoming a surgeon. Right now we are helping a group of students achieve their dreams of becoming doctors, nurses, social workers, teachers, and the list goes on.
We thank you in advance for your generosity in helping our students. May your kindness come back to you many times over.
In gratitude,
The Amish Descendant Scholarship Team
